Description
‘The King’. Oil Painting of a lion by Wildlife Artist Tichaona Ncube. The piercing gaze of the African lion enthrals the viewer.
Tichaona Ncube is based in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Self-taught and unfalteringly dedicated to his craft of wildlife art– Tich has the ability to capture the essence of Africa.
Tichaona got his start at a young age, sketching the surroundings of his small rural village. His work was influenced by the cattle he herded, the scenery he would pass through on his walks, and the wildlife he would encounter.
He moved to Victoria Falls and completed his education there, majoring in art. Sanele Dhlomo and the late Jimmy James Nkomo served as his mentors when he was 17 years old. He works with a variety of media, including pastels, pencil sketches, watercolours, oil, and acrylic. He creates abstract, still life, landscape, mural, and portrait paintings. Tich especially loves to depict wildlife in his art.
He says, “I love drawing and painting wildlife, especially painted dogs, lions, leopards, and cheetahs. They have had a great influence on my upbringing, my roots… I wish for my art to communicate that wildlife is still a part of us and its extinction is imminent. It is our duty by divine command to take care of creation, not just the wildlife, but the environment in general, and finally, take care of it for future souls.”
